Old
newspapers, volume XII of the Chambers Encyclopaedia (1955
edition), giftwrap, tissue paper and junk mail. Just a collection
of rubbish, or the ingredients for dynamic paintings by
Christine Hopkins? These and many other discarded pieces
form the collage base for colourful interpretations of the
landscape. A member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art,
and recently elected to their Council, Christine is drawn
to strong linear forms and in particular the built world.
As well as mixed media, she paints in oil, and loves printmaking
in all its forms, especially drypoint and mono-printing.
The Skylight Studio in Reigate is open to the public during
the Open Studios event, and paintings, prints and greetings
cards are for sale, and it's also the venue for mixed media
painting workshops, where up to four students can have a
go at mixed media with expert guidance.
Christine is represented by galleries in Surrey and her
work can be seen throughout the UK in group and solo exhibitions,
as well as the Open Studios event.
